Hennessey Venom GT

When it came to designing the Hennessey Venom GT supercar they took a leaf out of Carroll Shelby’s book and rather than creating a new design from the ground up, they looked at the Cobra for inspiration and decided to go with ‘the power to weight ratio’ formula and in essence ‘put a big engine in a small light weight body’. Starting with a Lotus Elise as a donor car they lengthen and widen it, drop a Corvette ZR1′s supercharged 6.2 liter LS9 V8 which has been tuned to 725hp (but they do offer a twin turbo version which pumps out 1,200hp), add a six-speed Ricardo gearbox, 15-inch carbon ceramic brake rotors, a programmable traction control system, an active aerodynamics system with adjustable rear wing, and massive Michelin PS2 tires.

At a cool $1 million each the Venom is in the same league as familiar European supercars but it’s a bit more exclusive since Hennessey only plan to make 10 of them each year.
