Edwin Japan Unique Denim Manufacture

This fascinating short film shows the Edwin Denim factory in Japan and highlights some of the processes that go into making a pair of jeans. Started in 1977 Edwin has always continued to improve their production efficiency and product quality through their machinery and the people who operate them, who are all known as ‘engineers’. Each member of the Edwin company is encouraged to be responsible for maintaining and improving their own machines which means that each machine is self-customised beyond standard industrial purposes and thus creates a unique garment furthermore there is very little staff rotation and most engineers spend their entire career on one machine which leads to a more consistent garment production.
